Fleadh File 4 - Shop Window Competition & Pub Session Trail

June 2012

Welcome to the weekly update on the Munster Fleadh Cheoil happenings. Here you will find the latest news, gossip and information about the Munster Fleadh Cheoil.

Shop Window Competition
The Fleadh committee are asking all shops, traders and businesses in town to consider taking part in our Fleadh Shop Window competition which is being kindly sponsored by David O'Riordan of Slateways. There will be plenty of visitors around for the Fleadh so this is a wonderful opportunity to help create a Fleadh atmosphere and show Dungarvan at it's very best. No entry forms needed - just dress your window with an Irish music/cultural theme, use the bit of gaeilge if you have it, and join in the Fleadh fun! Judging will take place on Saturday on July 14th.

Busking
Over 20 young members of Comeraghs Comhaltas, from 7 years upwards busked on the streets of Dungarvan last Saturday to raise funds for the Munster Fleadh. Split into four groups, they managed to cover all the main shopping areas, and despite the cold wind, played determinedly for over two hours. The traditional tunes, polkas, jigs and reels raised a tidy sum for the Fleadh, and the youngsters can be mighty proud of their great efforts. Thanks a million and well done to one and all (and a special thanks also to Jitterbeans for the yummy ice-creams!)

Pub Session Trail
Musicians continue to contact us about playing in the session trail, and the line-up is becoming more and more appetising as the days go by. The latest confirmation comes from one of the legends who has been promising to come to Dungarvan for a long time (he was waylaid last time when the Foot and Mouth struck!), Antoin Mac Gabhann is on his way to the Fleadh and will play in the session trail! Other musicians you will find making music on the trail include Edel Fox, Angelina Carberry, Danny O'Mahony, Paddy, Derek, Lisa, Colm and Eoin from Caladh Nua, Ciarán Somers, Dan Brudar, Conor Moriarty, Dave Sheridan, MacDara and Micheál Ó'Raghallaigh, Conal Ó'Grada, Geraldine O'Callaghan and plenty more. Great local talent including Ciarán Ó' Gealbháin, Caoimhín Ó' Fearghail and Brendan and Noel Clancy are also coming along. The full list of Musicians with dates and places will be available as a separate information sheet in time for the Fleadh!
