Jackie Daly & Paul deGrae

Cúl na Sméar Hall
Saturday, 17th February 2007
Another superlative concert! Jackie is a superb button accordion player, somehow able to fit in a heart soaring surprise of improvisation in the midst of dense melodies. Guitar player Paul deGrae accompanied Jackie and sang a few lovely melodies besides. Local musician Benny McCarthy, accordionist with Danú, joined Jackie for a song and Michéal Marrinan sang his ever popular "Binder Twine" song.
The podcast covers the last 15 minutes of the concert with some jigs, an American Civil War tune, a waltz and an encore.
Jackie Daly is one of Ireland's top accordion players and has been a member of De Danann, Buttons & Bows, Arcady, and Patrick Street.
Patrick Street was one of the top Irish traditional bands of the 1980s, formed in Dublin in 1986 by Kevin Burke (formerly of The Bothy Band) on fiddle, Jackie Daly (De Dannan) on button accordion, Andy Irvine (Sweeney's Men, Planxty) on bouzouki and vocals, and Arty McGlynn (Van Morrison, Planxty) on guitar. McGlynn later left the group, and other members were added: Ged Foley (The House Band, Battlefield Band) on guitar, and Declan Masterson on uilleann pipes and keyboards. They have also played with Donal Lunny, Bill Whelan and Enda Walsh.
